The Border Czar’s Invasion: Record 2.75 Million “Unauthorized Entries” Into U.S. This Fiscal Year Alone

Surge in Unauthorized Border Crossings Highlights Challenges in U.S. Immigration Management

Thanks to the fine work of Kamala Harris, over 2.75 million foreign nationals have entered the U.S. without authorization in the current fiscal year, according to recent data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

This figure encompasses encounters and apprehensions across all U.S. borders, both at ports of entry and in areas between these official crossings, totaling 2,756,646 following the publication of August’s figures. The government’s fiscal calendar starts on October 1st and ends on September 30th each year.

With additional figures factored in, the magnitude of unauthorized border crossings is even more pronounced. In August alone, close to 159,000 unauthorized entries were documented nationwide—a significant reduction from previous months and years, partly due to a presidential executive order from June that halved encounters between official entry points by over 50%. CBP detailed that in August, there were 107,503 unauthorized entries along the southwest border, not including those who weren’t caught.

Troy Miller, acting as the CBP commissioner, clarified that this number excludes 58,000 individuals apprehended away from entry points and another 63,000 who arrived at these locations without scheduling through the CBP One mobile application—raising the total to approximately 121,000 for that month.

Additionally, a record-breaking number of encounters and apprehensions occurred along the northern border in August. This surge pushed this fiscal year’s tally to an unprecedented 181,814—a figure expected to climb once September’s data is incorporated.

The data also shows a trend: most attempting or succeeding in unauthorized entry are single adults. Moreover, throughout this fiscal year up until August’s end in 2024, around 813,000 foreign nationals deemed inadmissible sought entry via ports using the CBP One app.

These primarily included individuals from Venezuela, Cuba, and Mexico.
Furthermore, nearly half a million individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela were granted parole under a DHS program criticized for bypassing legal channels established by Congress; they totaled over 530,000 by August’s end in 2024 according to Miller’s statements.

Miller argued that implementing “safe,” “orderly,” and “lawful” processes merely shifted illegal entries from unofficial crossing points to official ports of entry, resulting in higher illegal crosser figures than reported by CBP for fiscal years 2023 and 2024 since those entering through newly created parole programs aren’t counted within these tallies.

Despite assurances from the Biden-Harris administration regarding thorough vetting procedures, the accuracy of these claims has been disputed by multiple Department of Homeland Security Inspector General reports and statements from Border Patrol officials, suggesting lapses exist within screening processes. Despite these programs’ intention to only admit noncriminals, critics argue that insufficient vetting has allowed criminals into the country.

Under this administration, the base count of unauthorized border crossers has exceeded an estimated 12.5 million since fiscal year 2021, a number significantly inflated when considering various parole initiatives purportedly facilitating unlawful entries, revealed by The Center Square’s investigative reporting.

How do you feel about the current state of unauthorized border crossings and the government’s approach to managing them?
