Video: Dem Strategist Tells CNN Host Harris Will Be ‘Defining Herself’ With Ad Spending So She Doesn’t Need To Do Interviews

Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky on Friday told CNN host Kate Bolduan that Vice President Kamala Harris does not need to do interviews because she will be spending money on ads to craft her own message.
Harris hasn’t sat down for an interview since launching her presidential campaign after President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed her to take his place on July 21. Roginsky, on “CNN News Central,” told Bolduan typical Americans don’t care about Harris not doing interviews, and that she should not face scrutiny for avoiding them, after the host said Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio has been attacking the vice president on this issue.

“This is something that … you guys all care about as reporters, you want to sit with her, but the truth of the matter is when I’m sitting around my dinner table thinking about how to pay for college for my kid or about how to afford my mortgage or any of my taxes,” Roginsky started saying, with Bolduan interrupting to say that Harris’ “positions have changed.”
“Except for the fact that she’s going to spend her $300 million defining herself on TV and on social media the way she wants, right?” Roginsky continued. “And she’s going to ultimately sit with you guys, I believe. But the bottom line is, that’s not what he should be coming after her on. He should be coming after her on positions that affect regular people who are voting. If you’re standing there saying, ‘well, you’re not sitting for an interview,’ the average person doesn’t have time to sit around worrying what Kamala Harris is doing, they just want to make sure she’s doing something to help them.”
NewsNation host Leland Vittert confronted Harris’ former associate counsel Rachel Palermo on Tuesday over the vice president’s limited press appearances. Palermo did not directly answer, but said the vice president has given the media access during her tenure, with Vittert saying Harris “is a disaster” when she goes “off script.”
“They might not know that they care, but they should, because we‘re going to ask questions that they have and that they don‘t have access to her to ask,” CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp told Roginsky. “And there’s a difference between her putting out an ad that’s all the things she wants to say and then being challenged on some things. And that ultimately benefits voters, her own voters, who should know her very well and intimately what she wants to do.”
