Back in 2004, Senator Fritz Hollings sat down with Mike Wallace and gave a very candid explanation about why he was retiring from the Senate.  In short, he's getting out because all politicians spend virtually all of their time raising money for reelection.  There's not much time for anything else.  You can imagine how much worse it is today, two decades later!
